Falls from height are the biggest workplace killer, and a significant cause of major injuries. Work at height means work in any place where there is a risk of a fall likely to cause an injury. In 2006/07, falls were responsible for just under 180 fatal and major injuries to workers in Wales. Major injuries caused by falls can include head injuries, broken bones (commonly ankles, wrists or limbs) and dislocations. You do not have to fall very far to suffer a major injury – most are from falls of under two metres.
